Bibliographic list and its design

The changes that are constantly taking place in public life — the growth of the volume of information, the rapid development of new technologies — stimulate the transformation of educational processes. In this connection, the organization of library and bibliographic education of teachers, students, and students takes on special significance. These guidelines will help in the development of new knowledge of information and library space.

Making a bibliographic list of references is a mandatory element of scientific work.

Bibliographic description of the document

A bibliographic description is a process and a result of addition, according to certain rules, of a list of information about a document that identifies this document and makes it possible to find it among many others.

GOST bibliographic list

Description of documents is carried out according to GOST. Bibliographic list must matchGOST 7.1: 2006. “Bibliographic Record.Bibliographic description. General requirements and rules of drafting.

Abbreviations in the document description

Words and phrases are also abbreviated in accordance with GOST. When a bibliography is compiled in the title description, the first three words cannot be abbreviated. If the name is very long, then part of it can be skipped, denoting a pass with an ellipsis.

How to make a bibliography: rules

  1. Bibliographic description in the compilation of lists must be made in the language of the document.
  2. The main source of information may be: the title page, its turnover, the cover of the document, the last page.
  3. When making a bibliographic list, the description should consist of components that are combined in the field, given in a certain sequence. All areas are separated by a dot and a dash (. -).bibliography rules
  4. If the information is not taken from the main source of information, it is necessary to write it in square brackets in the bibliography, examples:/ K. Vilenkin; by ed. S. Kolmogorov; [Trans. from French O. I. Stepanova] / [A. Cohn, L. Moroz, G. Petrova] / [comp. A. Rozhko; ed. V. Parov, L.Belov].

Spelling in the compilation of bibliography

The bibliographic list is compiled according to modern spelling. The first word of each specific area should begin with a capital letter. Also, with a capital letter you should write all the titles in all areas and the first word of the general designation of the material. The remaining elements of the description are written in small letters, for example:Physics [Electronic resource]: a textbook / ed. K. Yakovleva.

Punctuation in compiling bibliography

Punctuation in the bibliographic description is used as a separation of the usual grammatical signs and signs of prescribed punctuation. Recommended punctuation (punctuation marks) helps to recognize individual elements in bibliographic descriptions.

Numbers in the bibliographic description

Numbers in the bibliography are written in the form (Roman, Arabic, verbal form), in which they are written in the publication. However, numerals that denote a volume, issue, part, number, pages should be written in Arabic numerals:Issue 1; in 5 tons; T. 2; Part 5; from. 12-16; 241 s.Also in Arabic should replace the numbers in the designation of the number of classes, courses of educational institutions; serial numbers of publications; year or release date, document distribution.Ordinal numbers write with the end:3rd ed .; 2nd year

How to make a bibliography?

There are such methods of grouping material in the references:

  • alphabetical;
  • systematic;
  • chronological;
  • numbering;
  • by sections of work.

how to make a bibliography

The author himself chooses how to group the bibliography, taking into account the peculiarities of his work. You can not mix different methods of grouping.

The most common methods are:

  • Numbering - the material is arranged in order of mentioning the literature in the text and citation.
  • Alphabetical - in the alphabet of the names of the authors and titles of works. The works of one author are arranged alphabetically by name or in the chronology of their writing.

When writing a thesis, term paper or thesis in the text in the reference to the publication included in the bibliography, you must specify the number under which this edition is listed in the brackets. For example:

- link to one edition[18];

- links to several editions[12; 20; 25];

- link to the multi-volume edition[15; V. 5];

- links to a specific page of the publication[32; from. eleven];

If the list is numbered, the first words of the bibliographic description and the year of publication are entered in the reference:[Petrov V. D., 2000]; [Amino acids and proteins, 2002].

bibliography design

Place links in the text

- After the name of the author, to whom reference is made, if he is not quoted.

- After the quotation, if the names of the authors are given before it, and after the author's names, if it is given after the quotation.

- In a logically suitable place, if the author, whose thoughts are stated, is not mentioned, and the literal is not quoted.

Alphabetical grouping is used most often in scientific works, that is, when bibliographic records are arranged according to the alphabetical order of the names of the authors and the names of the works (if the author is not specified or more than three authors):

  • placement of bibliographic records when the first word of the title coincides - alphabetically, the letters of the second word, and so on;
  • placement of works of one author - in alphabetical order of the letters of the first word of the name of individual works;
  • the placement of the works of authors with the same names - alphabetically initials of the authors;
  • if the names and initials of the authors coincide, alphabetically.

correct bibliography

When placing bibliographic records in different languages:

The correct bibliography contains descriptions of the sources used and is placed at the end of the work. Pages of the list, like other pages of text, are numbered. Numbering through, continues the numbering of pages of text.
