Why do brakes brake when braking? Causes of squeaking, repair or replacement of brake pads
Sooner or later every car owner is askedThe question is: why do brakes bounce when braking? This sound can often be heard in traffic jams. And even on new cars the brakes sometimes creak. What to do in this case? Let's try to understand.
Where does the creak come from?
First, let's look at the devicebraking system. Its main working component is the shoe. It creates the braking force, interacting with the disk. Outwardly it is a metal case with a friction material fixed on it. The latter is made of a complex composition, which includes:
- Reinforcing elements.
- Rubber (synthetic).
- Organic and mineral fillers.
Often the answer to the question of why the brakes creakwhen braking, it is hidden in the composition of the pads. Perhaps it turned out to be defective or substandard, or one of the above components is not compatible with the material of the disc, because of which there is a characteristic sound.
One of the most common reasons whycreak brakes when braking, is increased humidity. Often during a rain on a surface of the given elements the condensate collects. Because of this, a squeal of brakes arises. The reasons can also be hidden in the support itself. The creak appears as a result of vibrations of the pads about it. In the cabin you hear not only sound, but also tapping, flowing into vibration. There is a knock during braking. If these symptoms are observed after the recent replacement of the pads, most likely, the support bracket loosened due to temperature fluctuations. To do this, use a hexagonal wrench to tighten the mounting bolt. If you look at it directly (from the side of the street), it is on the inside. After that the problem disappears.
How to eliminate sounds
If the problem is poor qualitymaterial or its incompatibility with the disk, the only way out is to replace the pads with new ones. It is not necessary to save and buy cheap analogs. Having saved on cheap pads, "as a gift" you will get an endless creak, and possibly tapping. However, the latter arise even if there are scuffs on the disk itself. The smallest millimeter can create simplyan incredible knock at braking - turns of a wheel and weight of the car will make the business. The pad will simply crumble, pretty nervously caring the car owner. And even new branded elements will not be saved. In this situation, you need a disk replacement. To avoid any disagreement, the pads and the disk should be purchased from the same manufacturer.
Replacement did not help
Motorists complain that even after thisoperation problem is not lost. The disc is in the normal state, knocking does not occur during braking. How to be? The fact is that after installing new shoes, they need time for adaptation (running-in). The given process makes no more than 400 kilometers of run. It is recommended to perform active and intensive braking (not to the detriment of system overheating). If this also did not help, remove the wheel and disassemblethe support may have got into it dirt, because of which the whole problem arises. Although the design of the support is such that the dust there almost does not penetrate. But to exclude this factor is not worth it.
By the way, on some cars already from the factoryapply antiscatter plates. They are small metal pads that, by their thickness, eliminate the existing gap between the shoe and the support in the place of their contact.
If the creak appeared in rainy weather,it is recommended to dry the brakes. This is done very simply - at the speed you need to press the pedal several times. Thus, the temperature on the disc will increase and all the condensate will disappear.
To the car owner did not wonder whycreak brakes when braking, experts recommend using special pastes when installing new shoes. This composition should be applied to the end and back of the metal lining. It is forbidden to apply paste on the working surface of the disc or pads.
Brake Pressure Regulator
This element serves to distribute the brakeforces between the front and rear wheels of the car. When you press the pedal the main load is on the front pads. In bad weather, in this situation, the machine will simply lose control. The brake pressure regulator distributes the load so that all 4 wheels stop with a uniform force. If we exclude this element from the design, locking wheels is as follows: first brake the rear, then - the front brakes. In the snow or rain such a car can go yuzom - it will be unmanageable. The absence of a regulator significantly affects not only the overall safety, but also the wear of the pads, which will occur unevenly.
How to replace the pads?
To do this, we need a set of tools: a jack, a balloon wrench for unscrewing wheel bolts, hexagons and a hammer with a screwdriver.First, the bolts are broken and that part is liftedauto, from which side the pads will change. Having removed a wheel, visually we estimate a condition of brake hoses, anthers and pipelines. They should not have a liquid streak and be deformed. If there is a crack on the hose, it must be replaced - this part will not last for long. How much do the brake pads cost? They can be purchased at a price of 1000 rubles per set (4 - for the two front calipers).
So, first you need to wring out the brake pistonwith the help of a thin lever. Then, the bolts of the caliper bracket are loosened. On some cars, it is not fixed, then just remove the hand. Then it is necessary to knock out the guide pins. This can be done by attaching a screwdriver or pin to them (a long bolt of smaller diameter). By blowing the hammer, slowly move the upper and lower pin from the place. The support can be pushed aside and the pads removed. In their place we put new ones. Do not forget to treat the metal pads with a special paste. Reassemble in the reverse order.
Should I swap then?
If the brake hoses are not removed, thisoperation is not needed. Air will not enter the system during the replacement of the pads. By the way, the liquid itself (due to its ability to absorb moisture) must be changed every 2 years or 60 thousand kilometers.
So, we found out how much brakepads and why they creak. As you can see, it's quite possible to change them with your own hands. The cost of similar works on SRT is 1000-1200 rubles (almost the price of new pads).
